Space Engineers Long Range Ore Detector [NEW]
How to Build and Use a Long Range Ore Detector in Space Engineers
Space Engineers is a sandbox game that lets you create and explore various scenarios in space. One of the most important aspects of the game is mining and finding resources. However, the default ore detector that comes with your ship has a very limited range and can only detect up to 5 ore locations within 50 meters for small ships and 150 meters for large ships. This can make finding ores very tedious and time-consuming.

Fortunately, there is a way to improve your ore detection capabilities by installing a long range ore detector mod. This mod adds new ore detectors that have increased ranges of 2x, 4x and 6x for both large and small grids. These ore detectors can help you locate ores faster and more efficiently, as well as broadcast the ore signals using antennas to your base or other ships. In this article, we will show you how to build and use a long range ore detector in Space Engineers.
How to Build a Long Range Ore Detector
To build a long range ore detector, you will need the following components:
Detector Components: 15 for 2x, 30 for 4x and 45 for 6x (large grid); 10 for 2x, 20 for 4x and 30 for 6x (small grid)
Computer: 25 (large grid); 1 (small grid)
Motor: 5 (large grid); 1 (small grid)
Construction Components: 10 (large grid); none (small grid)
You will also need a power source, such as a reactor or a battery, to supply power to the ore detector. The power consumption of the ore detector is -2 kW regardless of the range or grid size.
To install the mod, you will need to subscribe to it on Steam Workshop and enable it in your world settings. Then, you can find the long range ore detectors in the G-menu under Functional Blocks. The ore detectors have different names and icons depending on their range and grid size. For example, the large grid 4x ore detector is called Large Ore Detector x4 and has a blue icon with 4x on it.
The ore detector requires 1x1x2 blocks of space and can attach to other blocks on all faces of its cube-shaped base. The cylindrical half of the detector does not attach to blocks. You can place the ore detector anywhere on your ship or station, but make sure it has a clear line of sight to the surrounding area. You can also use rotors or pistons to adjust the orientation of the ore detector if needed.
How to Use a Long Range Ore Detector
To use a long range ore detector, you will need to access its control panel screen by pressing K while looking at it or by using a terminal block. On the control panel screen, you will see several options and settings for the ore detector. Here are some of the most important ones:
Range: This slider allows you to adjust the detection range of the ore detector from 0% to 100%. The maximum range depends on the multiplier of the ore detector. For example, a 4x ore detector has a maximum range of 200 meters for small grids and 600 meters for large grids. You can increase or decrease the range depending on your needs and preferences. However, note that increasing the range will also increase the CPU load of the game, which can affect your performance and simulation speed.
Broadcast using antennas: This checkbox allows you to enable or disable broadcasting of the ore signals using antennas. If enabled, any antenna on your ship or station that is connected to the same grid as the ore detector will transmit the ore signals to other antennas within its broadcast radius. This way, you can see the ore signals on your HUD even if you are far away from the ore detector. However, note that this feature only works on planets and moons, as asteroids only spawn when players are near.
